Communications Intern

REPORTS TO: Communications Coordinator

LOCATION: Seattle, WA

COMPENSATION: $1,800 Stipend

DESCRIPTION: In December of 2023, Thrive International initiated another project in Seattle. King County contracted with Thrive to provide temporary shelter for 300+ immigrants living in tents. With King County, Thrive has been moving asylum-seekers staying in the tents at a local church to rooms in a local hotel since the third week of December.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Communications Coordinator in producing and organizing a variety of print and digital content. 

  • Coordinate with Thrive Seattle team to follow up with updates in the community and make a social media presence (writing, photography, and short reels) or a blog post.

  • Write press releases and coordinate meetings between media and the King County Project Manager at Thrive International. 

  • Design event/program flyers, graphics, and other marketing material. 

  • Collaborate with Thrive staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Communications/Strategic Communications/Media Studies Majors

  • Proficient writing skills for delivering stories and press releases

  • Understanding of brand management and design. 

  • Familiar with social media management (a huge plus if having an on-campus/internship experience) including Instagram and Facebook.

  • Basic phone photography skills (mostly an understanding of good composition). The ability to use a DSLR camera is a plus but not required.

  • Bi-lingual skills and/or significant cross-cultural or multicultural experience (including firsthand experience as a refugee or other type of immigrant/international student) preferred but not required.

SCHEDULE:

The Intern agrees to work up to 8-10 hours per week. The internship will begin on April 29, 2024, and terminate on July 31, 2024 (about 3 months). We accept remote work under the Communications Coordinator’s supervision/communication but require physical presence in specific events/meetings based on the organization’s event calendar. The Intern shall be allowed to take all Federal Holidays off from work.

Director of Finance

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SALARY range: $70,000 - $90,000 per year

DESCRIPTION: Full-time position. Oversees the financial operations of Thrive International.

This includes:

  • Systems that support the financial health of the organization

  • Appropriate financial reporting to managers, the management team, and the Board of Directors

  • Design and manage budget process

  • Oversee long-term financial forecasting, planning and modeling

COMPENSATION: To be determined based on qualifications and experience and aligned with Thrive’s pay scale for Director-level positions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

  • Ability to take complex data and find the key metrics

  • Experience managing a company's cash flow

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of Federal Award audits conducted under OMB Uniform Guidance

PREFERRED:

  • MBA or equivalent in education/experience

  • Direct experience as a refugee or other kind of immigrant

  • 5+ years of experience working in nonprofit operations management that includes budget oversight

  • Multilingual

  • Experience managing government grants (city, county, state, federal)

  • Experience with not-for-profit accounting systems

  • Experience with real estate finance, especially real estate development

  • Experience managing finances in a multi-site organization

  • Leadership (esp. in multicultural environments)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • General office setting

  • Great lengths of time working on computer, reading from computer screen, entering information, standing at copier or fax machine, and some time on the phone or in skype meetings may be required
